In Nature

Link

This 14th c. Chinese painting represents the traditional Chinese understanding of the relationship between architecture and landscape.
The composition is made of three parts, the mountains on the top, water in the middle, some trees,  rocks and a tiny temple like structure in the center. It's more a thick rectangular roof sitting on four thin, short and fragile looking pillars. Nature and the landscape is clearly the focus. In comparison, the building and its position are somehow awkward looking. In all its childishness and fragility, this little structure seems pretty amazing to me.
